In Madrid, visit the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía. What is most noteworthy about this museum is the integration of old world architectural style with an art collection that includes mostly modern art. The museum building has been renovated to include an extension made of glass and steel. Most of the art pieces here are from 20th century Spanish artists. This museum is where you can see the famous Guernica by Pablo Picasso.

For more of this artist, head off to Barcelona where most of his works from his formative or early years can be found at the Museu Picasso. Collections of his paintings are housed in five adjacent stone mansions that date back to the 14th century. The main and permanent collections are found in Palau Aguilar, Palau del Baró de Castellet and Palau Meca. Meanwhile, the temporary exhibitions are located over at the Palau Finestres, which is also another 14th century structure, and the Casa Mauri, which was built in the 18th century over medieval and Roman ruins.

In Toledo, there is a primarily military museum called the Alcázar. Aside from housing exhibits pertaining to its past especially during the time of Franco, the museum building itself speaks of a long and colorful history. It was built in the 10th century by Abd ar-Rahman III as fortress or al-qasr. When the Christians took over Toledo in the following century, they made some changes to the structure. Then, it was also later rebuilt to serve as a royal residence for Carlos I. In later years, it was converted to an army academy called the Academia de la Infantería, before finally becoming a military museum. Located at the higest point of the city, at the south of Zocodover square, the Alcázar is the most recognizable edifice of Toledo.

These are just three of the many museums that you can visit during your holidays in Spain. Be sure to get information such as opening hours and directions to the museums that you want to visit when booking Spain holiday packages.
